KARSTEN VESTERGAARD

Denmark

Code is everywhere in modern communication. It has initially been used to design products, based on principles derived from communication targeted traditional media formats. Recent years has shown a more creative approach, using code to utilize the media’s dynamic nature. A creative use of code in design has unleashed an enormous potential for coming as well as current practitioners. This talk presents how interactive design students at DMJX are introduced to the field of Coded Design. It gives an overview of the scope of the field, how it relates to other domains and where a language of code can be thought of as an active part of the creative process.

Karsten Vestergaard is Program Coordinator at "Interactive Design" at the Danish School of Media and Journalism. A past time Flash developer, now mainly focusing on JavaScript and Unity, where he explores all types of interfaces, interactions and experiences.

Aside from that, he is researching on strategies for, how to make it a designers core competence, to keep learning new things in order to stay relevant in an ever changing field.
